Promotion and Awareness

As an organization, we recognize Promotion and Awareness as the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities to be leaders in this important aspect of integration.  In 2004 APD Free State together with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities embarked on a programme to give Persons with Disabilities an opportunity to play a far more significant role in shaping their own future.

The overall objectives of the programme are as follows:

  • Do capacity building among Persons with Disabilities to develop their ability to play a leadership role in the addressing of key challenges associated with living with a disability;
  • Increase awareness levels and capacitate persons with disabilities about issues pertaining to disability and how to manage these in the workplace and society in general.

Our dream as an organization can be summarized as follows:

  • Persons with Disabilities play a leading role and represent themselves in awareness raising campaigns and sensitization of various sectors of the communities.
  • The various sectors are well informed and sensitized regarding issues of persons with disabilities.
  • Persons with Disabilities are capacitated and able to lead/manage projects that are implemented for them.
  • Persons with Disabilities hold leadership positions in the workplace.

Since we are placing Persons with Disabilities at the centre of this programme, we have started a Disability Promotion and Awareness Group to play a leading role in the programme.  It will be under the management of Ms. Nthabiseng Molongoana, Manager Jean webber Home and the overall programme management of the APD Free State Director, Ms. Jackie Malan.

To date the group has received among others training on presentation skills, article writing and radio program production.  We are fortunate to have had an opportunity to start the programme with Mr. Fanie du Toit, NCPPDSA’s National Promotions and Awareness Manager.

We celebrate the successful partnership between APD Free State and the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa.

We believe that the sky is the limit in promoting, enabling and empowering our clients. We will continue to have an unconditional belief in the abilities of persons with disabilities.
