Accessibility
The aim of the accessibility programme is to integrate persons with disabilities into the mainstream society in order for them to take an active part in society and lead a normal life. Persons with disabilities cannot be successfully employed or take part in recreational activities if the built environment is not accessible. We are here to break down these barriers.
For the last 10 years we have had a very successful accessibility programme. We have 2 volunteers who are persons with disabilities and who are responsible for this program. This group identifies places to be assessed and then visit these places to do accessibility audits. We also have the architect, Marieke Botha on board to assist with accessibility audits.
We have been successful in a number of assessments where owners of buildings, resorts etc. have made the necessary changes to comply with being accessible for persons with disabilities. In the past year alone we have assessed over 50 buildings/resorts, which include the Zambezi Sun and the Royal Livingstone Hotel in Zambia. These two hotels as well as the outdoor activities offered are now completely accessible for persons with disabilities.
