Disability
In 2004 the Association for Persons
with Disabilities Free State developed
the concept for a “disability experience
tourism route” which was supposed to
become a part of the “TEN YEARS OF
DEMOCRACY” celebrations announced by the Government at the time.
After more than six years the project is now a reality it is the biggest single project ever undertaken by the APD Free State and will put in place a tourism infrastructure, that is, a “disability tourism route” in the Free State, which will:
FIRST create facilities and amenities for recreation and tourism destinations for persons with disabilities;
SECOND will bring tourists to locations where persons with disabilities make and sell arts and crafts and
THIRD will through development of certain landmarks and features improve awareness of disability and related issues.
The project implementation phase commenced in September 2006 and the project should be completed by March 2011.
